“I want to email the pictures I took to my grandma but they are so heavy... What can I do??” - Resize Them!!
Resizing images in Irfanview is a easy and quick. There
are 3 ways to resize an image:
custom resizing – you choose the size you'd like
standard or automatic resizing
Batch resizing (resizing a lot of pictures in
one action) The
2 first method of resizing are done in the same way: A.
Find the picture you would like to resize B.
Click CTRL+R
C.
Before choosing the new image size, make sure the following check
boxes are checked:
-Preserve Aspect Ratio
-Apply sharpen after Resample
-DPI: (set to 72)
-resample (better quality) →
Lanczos filter D.
Now choose the new size. Try some of the options to see which fits
you the best. Most common sizes are 800X600 or 800X533 depending
whether you're sensor ratio is 2:3 or 3:4.
E.
Not the size you want? No problem! Just hit CTRL+Z and you're back
where you started The
3rd method is used when you want to resize more then one
picture. A.Copy
all the images you would like to resize into a new folder (check
this article for more info) B.While
viewing one of the images on this folder, press B (batch
conversion/rename) C.In
the following box:
1)define
the “output directory for result files:” 2)add
the images you would like to resize . If it is the whole folder,
click “add all” 3)click
on the Advanced button in the “Batch conversion settings”.
The following window will open: In
this window:
Select the RESIZE check box
Make sure the 3 check boxes (Preserve aspect
ratio/use Resample/Don't Enlarge smaller) Are checked
set the new size for the images. I recommend
selecting the “set one or both sides to:” and then
entering the maximum width and height. Let's say we don't want the
horizontal images to be more then 800px width and the vertical
images to be higher then 650px.
Do
Pay attention – if you will not check the “ Preserve
aspect ratio” box, the images might come out unproportional,
been both 800px width and 650px high.
I like adding a little bit (not too much)
sharpens to the images. (4-10 will do) Press
OK. This window will close and we'll be back in the first window.
Press
Start and the batching is on his way. Do
remember to define a new folder for the resized images in order to
keep the originals safe! Your
